Andersen Racing's Krohn
Takes the Checkereds
On Flag Day at the Glen
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y., June 14 - Anders Krohn may or may not realize that today
is Flag Day in America, but the rookie from Sandnes, Norway knows how to take
a checkered one here in the States. The Andersen Racing rookie went
wire-to-wire to post his fourth victory of the year in the F2000 Championship Series
presented by Hoosier Racing Tire Saturday at Watkins Glen International to pad
his point lead.
Although Krohn didn't quite eclipse Mike Andersen's 2006 track qualifying
record in earning the pole, he had everything his way in the 12-lap, 30-minute
race on the Glen's 3.4-mile road course with his Van Diemen, which is sponsored
by Trallfa Industries, Colosseum Dental and Kruse Smith. No one was ever able
to edge ahead of Krohn's car's front wing, something he hopes will continue to
be the case in the second half of the doubleheader here Sunday afternoon.
The only time anyone got close to Krohn was during a restart on lap seven
after an incident by Julia Dawson, but he was able to pull away once the action
resumed. Kyle Marcelli finished second and Chris Miller was third. Krohn, who
led all the practice sessions here, set the fastest lap of the race with a
1:54.866, again just missing Mike Andersen's track record for that category.
Andersen Racing's Doug Prendeville took the green flag in fifth and got a
fabulous start, as the driver from Whippany, N.J. quickly vaulted into third
place. After an intense battle with Matthew Inge, Miller and Craig Clawson,
Prendeville nailed down a strong fifth-place finish for the Palmetto, Fla.-based
team with his Allied Interior Products/Restart Communications No. 5. It was his
second top-five finish in as many races.
Two other Andersen Racing drivers, Scott Willard of Weston, Conn., and Jonny
Baker of Farnham Common, Buckinghamshire, England finished 14th and 16th,
respectively. Willard was fourth in the Masters class with his car, which is
sponsored by BroadReach Partners.
Qualifying for Race 2 is slated for 9:15 a.m. Sunday, with the race following
at 1:45 p.m. The weather forecast is for sunny conditions and a high
temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Saturday's race attracted a field of 38.
Andersen Racing is sponsored by Allied Building Products Corp. It is the
development team of Rahal Letterman Racing and the official Van Diemen factory
team.

Post-race quotes follow:
Anders Krohn: "The rain is falling heavily now, but I was glad it held off
during the race. I got a couple drops on my visor, but that was all.
"I'm so impressed by the Andersen Racing team and the car they put together.
It was fast right away; today in the race, it was like everything was on
rails. I just had to drive flat out, and that's what I did. There was a restart,
but about a lap after that I was able to get a 2-second gap. I was just
trying to do my job, and it worked out great!
"This track is the coolest track I've ever been to. It's so fast and
thrilling! I like it all!"
Doug Prendeville: "I'm a little disappointed. I got third on the start, and
I was running with the second-place guy but then a full-course yellow came
out. The restart didn't go so well, and I ended up fifth. I'm really happy with
the team though; they gave me a good car, and they're great to work with."
Jonny Baker: "It wasn't the best day from my point of view. I ran into the
back of someone on the restart, damaged my front wing, and the car was
compromised the rest of the race.
"We qualified third, but I'm just upset with myself at the moment because we
didn't get the results we wanted. We'll try again tomorrow.
"Driving here last weekend in the Star Mazda race helped. The cars are
completely different, but it definitely helped me learn the track."
